[About Takumen]
Takumen is one of the acclaimed online shops in Japan selling ramen packed right at the ramen shop and delivered home frozen to keep freshness. Takumen is the only shop that delivers over 100 different brands of ramen from popular shops where people always queue up, such as Ippudo, which also has shops in Singapore. Since it’s launch in July 2010, Takumen has sold 500,000 packs of ramen and created numerous fans. By using its strong relationship with ramen industry and distribution know-hows gained through operating Takumen, we will open our first “brick-and-mortar” shop in Singapore, which does not only sells ramen but promote its rich culture throughout Southeast Asia and the rest of the world.
Based on the trust we have built with the shop owners cum chefs via Takumen business, we were able to have access to the secret recipes of popular ramen. Now our central kitchen reproduces six ramen brands using the recipes entrusted by the shop owners. We will offer those six ramen at a shop under one roof, Takumen.
Just like wine, we want our customers to choose their favorite ramen from the numerous brands that we are going to offer.
The followings are the first six line-up of ramen that will be initially offered at Takumen in Singapore.
Hondashoten: Kurume tonkotsu ramen
Sakutaya: Yokohama iekei ramen
Chibakara: Jiro-inspired ramen
Domiso: Tokyo-style miso ramen
Bingiri: Katsuura tan-tan ramen
Hajime: Chicken paitan (white broth) ramen
The shop will open in mid-October 2014. We will add or replace with other brands in our menu from time to time, in order to introduce as many ramen brands as possible.
[Market potential]
We see a tremendous potential in ramen business. Although we have a variety of ramen broths in Japan, most of them besides “tonkotsu,” are still hardly known in overseas, including Singapore. While ramen industry in Japan has grown into US$70 billion market, it is only US$10 billion in the rest of the world. In Southeast Asia and Europe, ramen is the popular Japanese food next to sushi. We believe the ramen industry outside of Japan has a potential to grow into US$100 billion market.
[Our promise to success]
Currently there are 40,000 ramen shops in Japan. Each shop has its own unique flavor to compete in the market. Every year in Japan, 4,000 ramen shop opens and the same number closes. This high replacement rate shows that ramen industry is fiercely competitive. At Takumen, we offer only selected brands that remain at the top tier of the market. Our shop in Singapore will be more selective in order to reproduce the recipe and physically serve at the shop. That is our promise to success.
[Takumen’s mission]
It is Takumen’s mission to “offer our customers with the best ramen for each of them.” It is made possible by our network of numerous ramen shops all over Japan. In any part of the world, we are able to create a shop by selecting the brands that match with their local tasting buds.
Our other mission is to help expand overseas ramen market by bringing various new flavors and styles. Ultimately we are aiming to get listed in Singapore Stock Exchange and open shops in all over the world. This way we can encourage ramen industry in Japan to venture them in overseas market.
Takumen is not just an ordinary ramen business. We look forward to the applications from any candidates willing to grow together with us, and eager to experience business development in Singapore and other countries. We seek people who are able to share our vision and have a strong will for success. Various opportunities provided based on performance.
